Diante de um cenário mundial de incertezas, intolerância e polarização, uma pergunta se coloca na edição do FIF BH 2020: como as imagens podem funcionar como disparadoras de reflexões e auxiliar na compreensão das diferentes culturas e seus múltiplos imaginários? Em sua 4ª edição, o FIF explora o conceito de Imagens Resolutivas, levado para a discussão na última edição do festival pelo agricultor e líder quilombola Antônio Bispo dos Santos, o Nego Bispo, do Piauí, Brasil. Imagens resolutivas são aquelas que figuram formas de pensar, agir e se relacionar com o mundo. Buscam outras rotas de aproximação, soluções e saídas poéticas para abordar os problemas e conflitos no domínio da micro e macro política, a compreensão das imagens, a ação do humana no mundo e não servem apenas como dispositivos de ataque, defesa, denúncia ou lamento.
A convocatória internacional do festival recebeu 1.745 inscrições – entre fotografias, vídeos e longas-metragens – vindas de mais de setenta países. Cerca de quarenta artistas compõem a exposição com trabalhos que abordam questões atuais e urgentes e que carregam uma cultura, um modo de pensar e perceber o mundo e os desafios que enfrentam. Entre os os temas levantados pelos trabalhos estão o extermínio da juventude negra no Brasil; as marcas – físicas e simbólicas – deixadas historicamente pelo colonialismo, que permanecem até os dias atuais; lutas em defesa da diversidade de gênero, emergências sociopolíticas, ambientais e os riscos de um eminente colapso num futuro distópico. Pelas mais variadas abordagens, elaboradas sob diferentes perspectivas e contextos, figura uma realidade que vale ser enfrentada com resolutividade, imaginação e poesia, abrindo espaço para que diferentes modos de vida e pensamento possam coexistir, se encontrar e colaborar entre si.
A pandemia da covid-19 levou o FIF a reinventar sua rotina, modos de produção e conexão com o público. Nesse cenário, a exposição FIF-BH 2020 acontece tanto on-line quanto nas ruas, por meio de cartazes colados nos muros das casas, instituições ou estabelecimentos inscritos no programa FIF EM CASA. Inscrições também foram abertas para aqueles que desejavam fazer uma instalação caseira. Os inscritos receberão uma publicação com trabalhos da mostra e deverão depois retornar imagens de sua exposição particular para o festival. Como nos ensina Nego Bispo, é preciso reeditar o mundo a partir da nossa própria matriz e aprender uns com os outros que “a todo momento se começa, se está no meio e se começa de novo”.
In the face of a global scenario of uncertainty, intolerance, and polarization, a question is placed in the edition of FIF BH 2020: how can images work as triggers for reflections and assist in the understanding of different cultures and their multiple imaginary? In its 4th edition, FIF explores the concept of Resolutive Images, brought to the discussion in the last edition of the festival by the farmer and quilombola leader Antônio Bispo dos Santos, Nego Bispo, from Piauí, Brazil. Resolutive images are those that feature ways of thinking, acting, and correlation to the world. They seek other routes of approach, solutions, and poetic solutions to address problems and conflicts in the domain of micro and macro politics, the understanding of images, the human action in the world and do not serve only as devices for offence, defense, denunciation or regret.
The Festival international call received 1,745 entries – including photographs, videos, and feature films – from over seventy countries. About forty artists compose the exhibition with works that address ongoing and urgent issues and that bear a culture, a way of thinking and perceiving the world and the challenges they face. Among the themes raised by the works, there are the extermination of black youth in Brazil; the physical and symbolic marks – historically left by colonialism, which remain today; struggles in defense of gender diversity, socio-political and environmental emergencies, and the risks of an imminent collapse in a dystopian future. Through the most varied approaches, elaborated from different perspectives and contexts, there is a reality that is worth facing with resoluteness, imagination, and poetry, opening space for different ways of living and thought to coexist, meet and collaborate with one another.
The covid-19 pandemic led FIF to reinvent its routine, means of production, and connection with the public. In this scenario, FIF-BH 2020 exhibition takes place both online and on the streets, through posters pasted onto the walls of houses, institutions or establishments enrolled in the FIF EM CASA program. Registration was also open for those who wished to make a home installation. The registrants will receive a publication with works from the exhibition and must then return images from their private exhibitions to the festival. As Nego Bispo teaches us, it is necessary to re-edit the world from our own matrix and learn from each other that “every moment you start, you are in the middle and you start again”.
